Walmart temporarily shuttered its Paramount supercenter Wednesday so third-party cleaning crews can thoroughly clean and sanitize the building to guard against the spread of COVID-19.
The store, at 14501 Lakewood Blvd., closed at 2 p.m. Wednesday and will reopen at 7 a.m. Friday, Jan. 8. That will give employees time to restock shelves and prep the store for reopening, company officials said.
“Everything we’re doing is for the well-being of our associates and customers, and in consideration of guidance by the Centers for Disease Control and health experts,” the mega retailer said in a statement. “When the store reopens Friday we will continue conducting associate health screens and temperature checks, and all associates will be provided with facemasks and gloves.”
The company will continue requiring customers to wear protective facial coverings while inside its stores.
Stores like Walmart are typically closed when employees test positive or are exposed to COVID-19, though the company declined to provide details, citing privacy concerns.
Walmart recently closed stores in Anaheim and San Clemente for similar deep cleanings.
Walmart officials said the retail chain has implemented a number of safety measures to help curb the spread of the virus. That includes sneeze guards at registers, temperature checks and mandatory mask-wearing for associates. It has also placed social distancing signage throughout its stores and has enacted a emergency leave policy for workers who are unable or uncomfortable coming to work.
