Celebrations after the Rams’ victory at Super Bowl LVI ended with a destructive crowd on the streets of downtown LA, prompting the Los Angeles Police Department to issue several dispersal orders throughout the night.
The crowd seemed to grow as the night went on, with LAPD officers having to intervene to disperse the crowd of fans. Police reported ongoing “large, violent and destructive” crowds in a tweet posted after 11 p.m.
A large crowd of fans was seen blocking the intersection of Hope and 11th streets, climbing on top of cars and lamp posts.
Several vehicles were blocked on the street by fans who would not move out of the way, jumping and celebrating the Super Bowl champions.
Aerial images from Newschopper4 also showed two Metro buses that were apparently vandalized in the downtown LA area. It was also reported that a jewelry store on West 6th Street and South Broadway was vandalized.
Throughout the night, fireworks were seen flying through the sky, and one man even appeared to have been holding a box above his head as fireworks shot out.
LAPD had a large police presence in the streets in an effort to make the crowd leave.
In Inglewood, the sheriff reported just after midnight that the streets were clear, and there were no current “violent or unruly” crowds in that district.
