If facing a blank canvas is hard, imagine staring down at an empty square of sidewalk, all while knowing that you’ll need to start and complete a complex artwork over a single weekend. If you’re at The Paseo, in Pasadena, then that weekend is likely the one containing Father’s Day. For the free and long-running Pasadena Chalk Festival traditionally pops up around the middle of June, timed to the holiday, all while drawing some of the best madonnari, or chalk artists, around.
