A man was stabbed with a sword in Venice on Thursday evening, and police are looking for the suspect who wielded the weapon.

Justin Tucker, 29, has been identified as the suspect in the attack that involved a 16-inch sword-type knife happened around 6:30 p.m., according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The man who was attacked was taken to the hospital, police said. His condition is not known.

A flyer passed out to residents of a building in the 700 block of Rose Avenue said Tucker is a resident there. The flyer called him armed and dangerous and warned residents to not approach him. The building is part of Venice Community Housing, which is supportive, transitional housing.

NBCLA contacted Councilmember Traci Park, whose office said it is aware of the situation and that it has received pushback from the Venice Community Housing on numerous occasions when trying to conduct sweeps of encampments in the area and address problems related to its buildings.

Venice Community Housing sent NBCLA a statement saying it is aware of the incident and that its first priority is the safety of its residents.

A woman who lives in the building but didn’t want to be identified told NBCLA that Tucker seemed quiet and kept to himself, but she said she doesn’t feel safe living in the building.

“I’ve had multiple incidents over here with neighbors acting out of impulses and threatening me and stuff,” she said. “It makes me really want to get away and learn to help myself.”
