A man in his 40s was shot and killed in the Pico-Union area Monday, Los Angeles police said.

The shooting occurred around 7:20 p.m. near the intersection of Olympic Boulevard and South Alvarado Street, the Los Angeles Fire Department said.

A homicide investigation was ongoing and the killer was still outstanding, the LAPD said.

Alvarado Street appeared to be closed while police investigated the killing.
