A man is dead after being attacked by another man with a hammer in East Hollywood on Thursday night, police said.

Officers responded to the area near Willow Brook and Virgil avenues at around 9 p.m. after receiving reports about two people fighting, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The suspect, described by police as a 6-foot, 200-pound man last seen wearing a white tank top and blue jeans, left in an older model truck and was not in custody as of 10:15 p.m.

Details about what led up to the fight were unknown. It’s unclear what relationship, if any, the two had.
