Calling all animal lovers.

The LA Zoo is looking for you.

On Saturday, the Greater Los Angeles Zoo Association (GLAZA) is hosting an informational meeting to introduce community members to how they can become volunteer docents. GLAZA is in search of adults who are eager to learn about the animal world and share their love for wildlife and conservation with zoo visitors.

The meeting will be held at the Los Angeles Zoo and Botanical Gardens at 10:30 a.m. Click here to apply for the program.

The guide position allows volunteers to lead educational tours and experiences for students, members, and guests. Docents will also assist with special events such as “L.A. Zoo Lights” and “Boo at the L.A. Zoo.”

The docent training program begins Friday Oct. 4, and Saturday, Oct. 5, 2019.

Trainees meet at the Zoo one day a week for 23 weeks to learn about wildlife through classroom lectures and visits to zoo exhibits. After training, docents commit to eight volunteer hours per month for a minimum of two years. Applicants to the docent-training program must be at least 18 years old and have a high school degree or GED equivalent.

The private, non-profit Greater Los Angeles Zoo Association (GLAZA), has supported the zoo in partnership with the City of Los Angeles for more than five decades and provides funding for and operates seven essential zoo departments. GLAZA attracts one of the largest membership bases of any cultural organization in the city.
