A 3-year-old boy who was rescued by Rialto police officers after he choked reunited with his heroes for a touching reunion Tuesday.

Dash cam video released by the Rialto Police Department captured the moments leading up to the rescue of the child on Aug. 5. In the 911 call, a woman can be heard frantically pleading for help as her toddler experiences difficulty breathing.

Officers Joshua Colorado and Juan Villasenor responded to the emergency on the side of the road near Foothill Boulevard and Sycamore Avenue. Upon arrival, they found a group of people surrounding the young boy, trying to help him. Body camera footage worn by one of the officers shows him take over, place the child on the ground and use a suction device to help clear his airways.

After several scary moments, the child responds and begins to breathe again.

“I saw a little kid. He was just limp,” Officer Colorado said. “His hands were dangling; there were other people there. I took over right away, started giving him back blows … His eyes were rolled back. He looked blue. He wasn’t breathing at all.”

Celicia Rosas, the toddler’s mother, recalled the gut-wrenching experience.

“I just remember … he was dead, honestly,” she said. “It was awful.”

Thankfully, the officers’ actions were successful and the boy was able to breathe again. Video posted online by Rialto police showed the heroic officers checking in on the boy and his family at the hospital after the terrifying episode. In the video, Rosas is holding her son and tearfully expresses gratitude to the officers for saving her child.

On Tuesday, the boy was reunited with his heroes.

“It’s a really special day,” Villasenor said. “I’m really happy; A lot of emotions seeing the juvenile when I first saw him to now when he’s back happy, joyful, running around. It’s super exciting and this is why we do the job.”
