2017 VW e-Golf with upgraded battery pack starts at $31,315

The 2017 e-Golf plug-in electric vehicle now features an upgraded electric motor producing 134 hp and 214 pounds-feet of torque.

Volkswagen set the starting price of its updated 2017 e-Golf, which now boasts a 125-mile range thanks in part to a new, more powerful battery pack, at $31,315, including $820 for delivery.

The 2017 e-Golf plug-in electric vehicle — which has been restyled to more fully compliment a coming refreshening of VW’s entire Golf family of vehicles — now features an upgraded electric motor producing 134 hp and 214 pounds-feet of torque.

VW announced the pricing of the car Thursday.

An upgraded battery pack now features 35.8 kWh of energy storage, up from 24.2 kWh in the previous e-Golf, accounting for the new model’s 42-mile improvement in range year-over-year.

With DC fast charging, which is optional on the SE base model, VW says the e-Golf’s battery can be charged up to 80 percent capacity within an hour.

The 2017 e-Golf comes in three trim levels: SE, Limited and SEL Premium.
